Evaluation and Decision

When Warson Brands began planning its migration from a legacy on-prem ERP to Oracle NetSuite in 2020, it had a problem: each of its trading partners came with its own fulfillment requirements, and years of operational fine-tuning had produced a highly complex set of shipping workflows to meet them. Warson Brands needed a multi-carrier shipping platform that integrated natively with Oracle NetSuite and could preserve those workflows without forcing an operational rebuild, while creating room to improve them.

Jimmy Maritz, Vice President of Special Projects, led both the NetSuite evaluation and the selection of ShipJunction: “We had to meet the baseline of what we were doing prior to NetSuite. But we were looking for somebody that could exceed that baseline.”

Warson Brands’ operation spans everything from single-pair orders to wholesale orders containing 20,000+ pairs. Of all orders, 80% are three pairs or fewer, but roughly 80% of the product that Warson Brands ships moves through wholesale orders. Depending on the channel, an order may require its own packing logic, carrier and billing accounts, an EDI 856 Advanced Ship Notice (ASN), GS1-128 carton labels, and trading-partner-specific documents.

Warson Brands evaluated several shipping platforms that integrate with NetSuite, measuring each against a detailed set of operational requirements spanning both its B2C and B2B channels. These requirements centered on:

Platform foundation

  • Native NetSuite integration
  • Third-party and collect billing for 830+ carrier accounts
  • Data hierarchy for 856 ASN
  • Custom pack manifest generation
  • International shipping with ETD (Electronic Trade Documents) commercial invoices
  • Trading-partner-aware field mappings (NetSuite records & reference fields)

B2C drop ship

  • Partner branded packing slips
  • Integrated printing of partner marketing inserts
  • Wave picking and batch shipping
  • Blind ship-from identity & return address

B2B wholesale

  • Customer routing instructions
  • Variable case-pack quantities (e.g., 1, 6, or 12 units)
  • SSCC-14 case-pack barcode support
  • Trading-partner-aware GS1-128 label generation
  • Bill of Lading (BOL)
  • Efficient mixed-SKU packing on large orders primarily composed of whole case packs

After a detailed evaluation, one platform stood out from the rest. “There were a few out there that we looked at, but none of them checked the boxes like ShipJunction did. ShipJunction met all the requirements for integrating with NetSuite,” Jimmy says.

When we chose ShipJunction, we needed a shipping solution that would integrate with NetSuite with minimal change management in our shipping operation. ShipJunction really delivered on that promise. As our volumes and order sizes increase and our customers’ requirements evolve, ShipJunction keeps our business running smoothly and helps drive our growth.”

The Solution

ShipJunction gives Warson Brands a multi-carrier shipping platform with a Built for NetSuite certified integration, handling complex fulfillment requirements across B2C and B2B orders.

Migrating from an on-prem ERP and tech stack to a cloud-based ERP is a complex process. Jimmy remembers the go-live experience with ShipJunction: “We went live with NetSuite, ShipJunction and nearly every other integration at once. It was an extremely stressful time, but there wasn’t a problem the ShipJunction team didn’t help us address in a timely manner. That has remained true ever since go-live.”

ShipJunction’s Cartonization software automates packing logic on large wholesale orders. “Cartonization has provided us with a lot of value,” says Tony Vaughn, Vice President of Information Technology. “It understands what our case-pack quantities look like and automatically packs those into components, so we can focus on packing the mixed-SKU orders.”

ShipJunction assigns every order to the correct workflow and carrier billing account, then generates the labels and documents each trading partner requires. The same system handles everything from single-pair retail orders to wholesale shipments that need a BOL plus UCC-128 carton and pallet labels.

ShipJunction’s data model captures the SKU-carton-shipment relationships that EDI fulfillment requires and writes them back to NetSuite, where Warson Brands’ EDI provider picks them up to transmit the ASN. The label on the carton and the data in the ASN match, and the ASN transmits on time.

Warson Brands also runs a separate ShipJunction development environment for building and validating new configurations before they reach the warehouse floor. With 63 trading partners and more than 830 carrier accounts, Warson Brands faces constant change, such as updated routing guides or new label specifications.

According to Tony, “The ability to have a development environment in addition to production has been invaluable. We can integrate, test, and validate that everything works before it goes into production.”

The Result

ShipJunction supports the full range of Warson Brands’ fulfillment operations, whether a single-pair B2C order or a large wholesale order with tens of thousands of pairs. Tony credits ShipJunction with handling whatever complexity Warson Brands’ operations require: “It’s about getting the result and meeting the dynamic nature of our shipping needs.”

The platform has exceeded the performance baseline Warson Brands established with its previous shipping system. Initially, on large orders with 400 packages or more, there were slight lags between scans. On hearing this feedback, the ShipJunction support team acted quickly to improve the performance, enabling the Warson shipping team to work at scan speed.

Warson Brands is consistently meeting its retail partners’ fulfillment requirements and avoiding ASN-related chargebacks. Jimmy explains, “We have received repeated feedback that our ASNs are perfect. Everything that we are sending to them on ASNs with carton contents, container numbers, and labels matches.”

Jimmy says ShipJunction has been a hit with the shipping team: “One of my metrics is: how does the team like using it? And everybody likes it. And if people are happy and not complaining, then I’m happy. Our customers are happy, and ShipJunction helps us deliver on our promise to our customers.”
